Help us expand awareness. Build community partnerships. Make an impact.
The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board (CSB) is seeking a motivated Community Outreach & Marketing Intern (Volunteer) to help us develop and implement a strategic outreach plan for our crisis stabilization services.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in marketing, communications, public relations, community engagement, or behavioral health to gain hands-on experience developing a marketing strategy and building relationships with community partners throughout Northern Virginia.
About the Opportunity
Our team has many ideas for increasing awareness of our services—but we need someone with the time, creativity, and communication skills to help turn those ideas into action.
The intern will help us develop a consistent, sustainable outreach and marketing strategy to increase awareness of our crisis stabilization services among organizations and professionals who may refer individuals to our programs.
This may include:
- Developing a targeted community outreach and marketing plan
- Identifying key referral sources and community partners throughout Northern Virginia
- Creating and maintaining an outreach/contact list
- Conducting outreach through email, phone calls, and in-person visits
- Representing CSB at community meetings, networking events, and presentations
- Developing and delivering engaging presentations about our services
- Building and maintaining relationships with referral agencies and community organizations
- Brainstorming creative ways to increase awareness and utilization of our services
- Partnering with CSB Communications to ensure outreach materials and messaging are effective and consistent
- Tracking outreach activities and helping evaluate what strategies are most successful
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who is confident, personable, proactive, and comfortable talking with people. The ideal candidate is a natural relationship-builder who can walk into a room, introduce themselves, and confidently communicate the value of our services.
You should be someone who:
- Has an interest or background in marketing, communications, public relations, community outreach, or a related field
- Is an engaging and confident public speaker
- Has strong written and verbal communication skills
- Is comfortable making phone calls and initiating professional relationships
- Can work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision
- Is creative and enjoys developing new ideas
- Is organized and able to follow through on projects
- Enjoys networking and connecting with people
- Has an interest in behavioral health and/or community-based services
Graduate students and recent graduates are especially encouraged to apply, as this opportunity provides meaningful hands-on experience in marketing strategy, community engagement, professional networking, and public relations.
What You'll Gain
This is more than a traditional volunteer role. You'll have the opportunity to develop and implement an actual outreach strategy for a public behavioral health organization and see your work directly influence community awareness and connections.
The intern will also have the opportunity to develop portfolio-worthy work, including an outreach strategy and supporting materials that can demonstrate real-world marketing and communications experience to future employers.
Time Commitment: Flexible; based on availability and the needs of the project. Some daytime availability for community outreach and presentations is preferred.
Location: Northern Virginia; a combination of remote planning and in-person community outreach.
Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer internship opportunity. Internship hours may be eligible for academic credit when approved by the intern's educational institution.
