Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that provides concrete support to survivors of violence in our community? This is the volunteer opportunity for you!
On-call Advocates provide a vital link to services for individuals who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. Advocates provide crisis intervention, advocacy, supportive listening, medical advocacy, law enforcement advocacy, shelter facilitation, transportation, information, and referrals when Family Support Center is closed.
On-call advocates provide evening, weekend, and holiday coverage for Family Support Center's 24-hour crisis hotline. Volunteers operate out of their own homes, using their personal phones (calls are directed through a third party answering service). Occasionally a volunteer may need to respond in person to assist with shelter or a forensic exam.
Training takes place over four weeks, one 5-hour session per week. Once training is complete, sign up for the shifts that work for you! Monday- Friday shifts are from 4:30pm - 8:30am; Saturday, Sunday & holiday shifts are 24 hours (8:30am - 8:30am)
Initial and ongoing training and support are provided.
