Marine Conservation Volunteer Program (Philippines) 4-24 weeks

Marine Conservation Philippines (MCP) offers structured volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in contributing to the protection and restoration of coastal and marine ecosystems.

Based in the Philippines, MCP is a nonprofit organization working at the intersection of marine conservation, community engagement, and capacity building. Its programs support coral reef monitoring, marine protected area (MPA) management, and environmental education initiatives in collaboration with local stakeholders.

Volunteers are integrated into ongoing conservation activities and support program delivery under the guidance of experienced staff. While specific responsibilities vary depending on project needs and duration of stay, volunteer involvement includes:

    • Assisting with coral reef monitoring and marine field activities while scuba diving
    • Supporting environmental education and community outreach efforts
    • Participating in coastal and marine conservation initiatives
    • Contributing to day-to-day operations and project tasks

Volunteers gain practical insight into the realities of implementing conservation programs in a developing-country context, including the social, environmental, and logistical dimensions of this work.

    Approach to volunteering:

MCP is committed to responsible and ethical volunteering practices. Volunteer roles are designed to support locally identified conservation priorities and to complement, not replace, local capacity. The organization emphasizes long-term impact, collaboration with local communities, and evidence-based approaches to conservation.

    Who should apply:

We welcome applicants who demonstrate a genuine interest in conservation and a willingness to engage seriously with the work. Strong candidates typically:

    • Are reliable, self-motivated, and adaptable
    • Have a clear interest in environmental or conservation work
    • Are comfortable working in remote field-based settings
    • Value teamwork, accountability, and cultural sensitivity
    • Understand that campus is a shared environment, and have consideration of others.

Relevant experience (e.g., diving, education, environmental studies) is beneficial but not required. Non-divers go through a comprehensive training program, and acquire PADI diving certifications allowing them to dive in the future too. We accept volunteers aged 18-60. Participants must be able bodied, and capable of carrying their own scuba gear, and demanding field conditions (heat and humidity, and occasionally longer surface swims.)

    Program structure:

Volunteer placements are available throughout the year, with flexible durations depending on program needs. Activities typically combine fieldwork, orientation/training, and project support. Volunteers generally scuba dive twice a day, six days a week. There are no non-diving volunteer programs offered.
