    Descripción

    Apprenticeship (1 year) - 10 hrs/week. 480 hours. Go from novice to practitioner as an archivist. This position builds not only copy-editing, observation, data-entry, and data-management skills but also problem-solving, critical thinking, and detective skills in a large archival data set. As an apprentice, you will also learn how to audit and critically analyze and review oral history recorded narratives. Apprentices are expected to be advanced in their skills and career-ready upon graduation.

    Internship (6 months) - 10 hrs/week. 240 hours over six months. Train to become a digital archivist. Learn the nuance of archiving oral history interviews within a modern digital archive. Learn a new skill and practice it while helping to build the archive.

    In-person position at our Berkeley, California office. Person must be based in North America (USA).

    Internship Time Period

    TWELVE MONTHS POSITION: Position opens every quarter. Apprentice needs to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week. Minimum 12 months commitment.

    SIX MONTHS POSITION: Position opens twice a year. Intern needs to commit a minimum of 10 hours each week. Minimum 6 months commitment.

    In-person position at our Berkeley, California office. Person must be based in North America (USA).

    Job Description

    o Develop or improve your administrative, time management, and organizational skills

    o Archive oral history interviews, which are core to The 1947 Partition Archive.

    o Provide detailed attention to each story and associated archival data

    o Manage spreadsheets

    o Communicate with remote and in-office team members

    o Review and assess each story submission as it arrives

    o Assist Program Coordinator in managing oral history systems & databases

    o Be the first to read the life stories of interviewed Partition Witnesses

    o Hone your copy editing skills for publishing the sensitive content of witness narratives.

    Job Requirements

    o Strong communication and writing skills

    o Experience working with databases

    o Previous administrative experience preferred but not required

    o Strong passion for preserving history and supporting our mission

    o Previous library or other archive experience a plus, but not required.

    o Excellent English written skills

    o Copy editing skills required

    o US citizenship, permanent residency status, or valid US VISA

    o Strong passion for preserving history and raising awareness for Partition stories

    Internship Expectations

    The 1947 Partition Archive’s social media presence attracts high traffic and thus requires sophisticated management.

    Only serious interns may apply for this position. Interns are expected to develop ownership of their projects and encouraged to develop creative solutions. Intern must have a strong passion for and dedication to our mission and goals. Interns will receive relevant training, fieldwork experience as well as guaranteed references for those who complete their internship term. Successful interns, at the end of their tenure, will be considered for any paid positions that may be available.

    Interns work at the downtown office in Berkeley, California, USA. In-person positions assume the applicant has US citizenship, permanent residency status, or a valid US VISA, and can self-sustain their stay throughout the internship or apprenticeship period, including food, lodging, and transport.
