    Picnic in Your Park

    Our Opportunity:

    Picnic in Your Park, hosted by Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s Friends Advisory Board, celebrates the beauty of Gateway Arch National Park while raising awareness and critical funds for park conservation, preservation, education, and community programs through the purchase of a gourmet picnic in the park.

    This position consists of several opportunities including:

    • Event Set-Up Volunteers: The duties of this position include setting up tables, tents, and signs around downtown and throughout Gateway Arch National Park from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
    • Check-in Volunteers: The duties of this position include greeting guests, checking them in, and directing them to pick up their basket from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    • Basket Runners: Volunteers will work alongside check-in volunteers and GAPF staff by grabbing baskets from the catering trucks and delivering them to Picnic attendees. Runners will volunteer from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Greeters: The duties of this position may include greeting guests as they arrive at the park, giving directions on how and where to pick up their baskets, and answering or finding someone to answer any questions they have. Greeters will be stationed in pairs around downtown and the park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    • Event Tear
    • Down Volunteers: The duties of this position include taking down tables, tents, and signs around downtown and throughout Gateway Arch National Park, helping store the items at the Foundation offices, and walking the grounds to collect any trash and debris from the event from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Volunteers must be 18 or older. As representatives of Gateway Arch Park Foundation, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided prior to or during training.

    Required Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

    • Excellent customer service
    • Familiarity with downtown St. Louis and Gateway Arch National Park grounds
    • Enthusiasm, friendliness, and a positive attitude
    • Respect for confidentiality of the Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s volunteers, partners, members, and donors
    • Flexibility and willingness to switch to new positions as needed
    • Willingness to take initiative and voice ideas

    Commitment:

    Sunday, June 7, 2026, with various shifts from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

    Location:

    Set Up volunteers will meet in Kiener Plaza at 500 Chestnut Street. All other volunteers will meet at the North Gateway, which is near the Eads Bridge between 1st and 2nd streets. Free parking is available in the Kiener East Parking Garage at 500 Chestnut Street.

    Training and Supervision:

    • Volunteer orientation will take place on Zoom from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 4th. A Zoom link will be provided upon registration.
    • Additional training will be hands-on and take place during the event.

    • Contribute to a national monument, Gateway Arch National Park!
    • Annual volunteer recognition event
    • Free parking if needed during volunteer hours
