Riding with Hope is seeking Horse handlers (leading the horse) and Side walkers (walking beside the horse supporting the student) for 45-minute group and 30-minute private horse-riding lessons for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Volunteers must be 16 years or older. Horse experience is not needed, as we love to teach! Classes are 10 am, 2 pm, 4 pm Monday through Thursday. We have two sessions with weekly lessons: Spring is March through May, and Fall is August through October. If you are interested in helping with barn chores, there are year-round opportunities.
Our goal is to provide equine-assisted services to contribute to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being. A disability doesn't limit someone in sports; we provide working and riding horses!
Email the above address to request a copy of the application. Please return it with a copy of your Social Security card and driver's license for a background check. All of our students have State services. Therefore, background checks are required to work with our students.
If you have any questions about the process, call the Program Coordinator, Kendra Phillips, at 919-418-0507.
