Volunteer-Internship: Disaster Preparedness

Help villages near Kangra get ready for landslides, floods and earthquakes, with local response teams.

What you will do

• Walk the village with residents and mark risks and safe places on a map.
• Help the village response team run a mock drill.
• Write up what the drill showed, so the village can run the next one itself.

Who this is for

• Students and graduates of geography, social work, public health or disaster management.
• You can spend long days in villages, walking between homes in any weather.
• Some Hindi helps when you talk with families.

What you get

• Field days alongside the Red Cross and the district disaster team.
• A free letter confirming your dates and your work when you finish.

What it costs

This placement is unpaid. A monthly fee covers your shared room, meals, internet, training, mentoring, local transport for the work, and the papers for your visa.

• From abroad: USD 810 for one month, USD 1,350 for three, USD 1,980 for six, plus a refundable USD 45 deposit. You need health and evacuation insurance.
• From India: ₹9,000 a month for one month, falling to ₹3,000 a month for six, plus a refundable ₹1,500 deposit for some housing.
• Not included: flights, visa fees and insurance.
• Group discounts and scholarships can lower the fee.
• The fee is less than your stay costs us.
