Veteran companionship volunteers are needed to visit with and enrich the quality of life for fellow Veteran patients with a life-shortening diagnosis who are receiving hospice care. This program allows volunteers to be matched one on one with another veteran patient. The volunteer would simply offer companionship/friendship through regular visits. The volunteer can also set their own schedule that is convenient for both parties. Typically a volunteer would make a companionship visit 2-4 times monthly for approx. 30 minutes to a couple of hours. Additionally, a volunteer may occasionally be called upon to make special "pinning" or "final salute" 1x visits to assist in honoring a veteran with a framed certificate and pins. This is a wonderful way to make a difference for fellow veterans this is an extremely meaningful and rewarding way.
