THIS IS AN UNPAID, REMOTE NONPROFIT STARTUP VOLUNTEER ROLE.

    Read carefully before applying.

    Background:

Pitch Labs, a 501(c)3 non-profit, works to inspire, educate, and mentor aspiring entrepreneurs to build their first business. Obtaining knowledge to be a successful business founder can be financially costly and energy draining. Our 100% volunteer run nonprofit works to provide free resources online in the form of an ‘how-to’ library, a community of entrepreneurs, and events. We hope to create a world where everyone feels empowered to innovate.

How this Role ties into Our Mission & What We Need:

As the Development Department Director, you will work in a multifaceted role, helping team members coordinate grants and sponsorships while working to build relations with donors. This team will also be responsible for coordinating our relationship with a law clinic for legal advice and managing small-donations web forms/campaigns. You will supervise these efforts and ensure that these team members' services are appropriately utilized, and that team members are connected with areas of the organization where they are needed to help. This is a relatively new team, so we do seek a candidate who is comfortable developing and integrating new tools and processes into our team's operations.

    • NOTE: Use of AI to write responses in your application will disqualify it from consideration.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Experience in securing grants, sponsorships, or donations through compelling communication and relationship-building.
    • Ability to break down organizational goals into bite-sized goals for the team.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor messaging to donors, sponsors, grant committees, and legal partners.
    • Understanding of nonprofit funding cycles, donor engagement best practices, and basic legal considerations (e.g., 501(c)(3) compliance).
    • Skilled in overseeing campaigns, tracking progress, and coordinating across departments to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met.
    • Confident in reaching out to and maintaining relationships with sponsors, legal advisors (e.g., law clinics), and institutional donors.
    • Experience using donor databases, small-donations platforms (e.g., GiveButter, Donorbox), or CRM systems is a plus.
    • Passion for Pitch Labs’ Mission
    • Optional: If you have experience doing the above in an educational nonprofit please mention that in your application.

    Duties/Tasks/Responsibilities:

    • Set up sources to gather quantitative data to demonstrate organizational advancement.
    • Lead and track progress on grant writing and sponsorship sourcing efforts.
    • Ensure a PMS is used to ensure all team members remain clear on task status.
    • Oversee the creation and maintenance of sponsorship documentation.
    • Ensure sponsorship one-pagers and pitches are reviewed and approved before dissemination.
    • Coordinating with the team and Board of Directors to ensure timely submission of tax forms (we currently file 990-EZ forms which are just 3 yes or no questions).
    • Act as a point of contact for external stakeholders, including vendors, partners, and regulatory agencies, as needed.
    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Lead or participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives aimed at achieving organizational objectives.
    • Lead bi-weekly/weekly team meetings and remain reachable throughout the week.
    • Attend board meetings from 6-6:30 P.M. EST on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.

    Benefits:

We offer many benefits at various points in our volunteer journeys with us.

    • Day 90:
      • 1-1 Coaching with industry experts (PL Advisory Committee)
      • Resume/Job coaching and guidance (Free Career Coaching)
      • Access to major discounts on personal purchases (flight travel, theme park tickets, movie theatre tickets, etc.) through our partner Funex
    • 100+ Hours Logged:
      • Presidential Volunteer Service Award (For US-Based Volunteers)
      • Sponsorship for local community service awards
    • 6 Months:
      • Recommendation letter for employers/school from Department or Executive Director

Please view our full list of benefits here.

Time Commitment: at least 8-10 hours a week for at least 6 months.

    • Included in this time estimate: the weekly team 1-1 meeting, time for text/email communication, time spent working on a project. Volunteers can take on more tasks and spend more time if they desire.
    • We have a 24 hour message acknowledgement (thumbs up) and 48 hour message response policy to ensure smooth workflow for all of our team members.
    • Volunteers can take time off as needed for exams, work, family etc. We only request that such requests are communicated ASAP to allow teams to plan.

    Notes:

    • Although we are all volunteers, we work like a start-up, and seek individuals who are strong communicators and bring energy to the table.
    • As we train each volunteer heavily, we request that you do not apply unless you are certain about your ability to commit to the organization.
