STEM Professionals Needed: Become a CAP Mentor

    Do you…

    • Love supporting young people as they explore who they are and who they want to become?
    • Enjoy sharing your STEM journey, offering guidance, and helping students build confidence?
    • Want to make a meaningful, long‑term impact in a young person’s life?

Become a CAP Mentor with Students 2 Science!

    About Students 2 Science (S2S)

At Students 2 Science, we believe every student deserves the chance to see themselves in a STEM career.

We’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to high‑quality STEM learning experiences for students from under‑resourced communities. Through hands‑on labs, career exposure, and mentorship, we help students build confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging in STEM.

    About the CAP Mentorship Program

The Career Advancement Program (CAP) is a two‑year mentorship experience that pairs high school and college students with caring STEM professionals. Mentors help students explore STEM pathways, build self‑confidence, navigate challenges, and prepare for life after high school.

We’re looking for supportive, committed mentors who want to make a lasting difference in a young person’s life.

No mentoring experience is required — just empathy, consistency, and a passion for helping students grow.

    What You’ll Do

    • Build a one‑on‑one relationship with a high school student interested in STEM
    • Meet monthly (virtually) to support your mentee’s academic, personal, and career exploration
    • Participate in quarterly workshops with your mentee and the S2S team (in-person)
    • Encourage confidence, identity exploration, and goal‑setting
    • Serve as a positive, reliable adult role model

    Time Commitment

    • Two‑year program (students begin in 10th grade)
    • Monthly mentor‑mentee meetings
    • Quarterly workshops hosted by S2S
    • Occasional check‑ins with S2S staff

We provide training, resources, and ongoing support every step of the way.

    Who We’re Looking For

    • STEM professionals from fields such as engineering, IT, biotech, healthcare, research, or STEM education
    • Adults (25+) who are patient, dependable, and committed to youth development
    • Mentors willing to complete a background check (facilitated by S2S)
    • Individuals who value equity, inclusion, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds
    • Individuals able to travel to Whippany, NJ

    Why You’ll Love Mentoring

    • Make a lasting impact: Help a student build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging in STEM
    • Give back in a meaningful way: Support students who may not otherwise have access to STEM role models
    • Grow personally and professionally: Strengthen your communication, leadership, and coaching skills
    • Join a community: Connect with other STEM professionals who care about equity and education
