This is an opportunity for someone that wants to spend time in the summer on the shores of Lake Washington helping people with disabilities go sailing. For them it is a chance to leave their disabilities at the dock and experience the freedom of sailing. For you it is the chance to see their smiling faces when they get back to the shore.
These participants just need a little assistance to get from the shore to the water. Volunteers help check participants in at Registration, and for new sailors review their expectations and explain to them how Footloose operates. Prior to the participants going to the dock life jacket and sling (if required) fits are required. All participants are escorted to the dock by a volunteer. Volunteers then assist, if help is needed, participants getting on and off the boats. This assist can range from offering an arm to hold onto, to the use of a davit system and hoyer lift.
No experience is required for the on-shore positions.
