Volunteer Grant Writer (Nonpartisan Civic Engagement)

The Institute for Democratic Discourse is reclaiming the digital town square. We are a nonpartisan nonprofit organization—501(c)(3) status pending IRS determination—dedicated to defending open inquiry and intellectual pluralism through research and cultural change.

We are looking for a meticulous, mission-driven Volunteer Grant Writer to help us secure the funding necessary to fix our public conversation and scale our impact.

    Your Impact:

As our primary Grant Writer, you will bridge the gap between our high-level research and the philanthropic partners who want to support a healthier democracy. You will play a pivotal role in our founding stage, helping us build the financial foundation required to protect the "how" of public discourse.

    Key Responsibilities:

      • Funding Research: Identify and vet foundations, civic-health funds, and corporate giving programs that align with intellectual diversity and free expression.
      • Proposal Development: Draft and edit compelling Letters of Inquiry (LOI) and full grant proposals.
      • Mission Narrative: Translate complex research on "chilled speech" and pluralism into persuasive narratives for diverse funders.
      • Grant Readiness: Organize and maintain a "master narrative" and documentation to ensure we are ready to submit high-volume applications upon IRS determination.

    What’s In It For You?

      • Founding-Stage Experience: Gain rare experience helping a nonprofit transition from "pending" to "fully funded."
      • Strategic Portfolio: Build a portfolio of writing focused on some of the most pressing civic issues of our time.
      • Flexible & Remote: 100% remote with a flexible commitment (approx. 5–10 hours per month).

    Qualifications:

      • Exceptional Writing: Ability to write with clarity, precision, and persuasive power.
      • Professional Integrity: High-level discretion when handling organizational data.
      • Disciplined Mindset: Self-motivated with the ability to manage deadlines independently.
      • Mission Alignment: A deep commitment to ideological neutrality and the defense of open debate.
