Millions of people in the US face food insecurity ever day. An estimated 1 in 5 children experience hunger. At the same time, 40% of food in the food system is WASTED!

The need for our work has never been more vital.

Food Rescue US is dedicated to reducing wasted food and increasing food access. By keeping food out of landfills, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. Through our proprietary web-based app, we engage volunteers and food donors to directly transfer nutritious excess food to social service agencies serving people experiencing food insecurity. Food Rescue US is a national organization with 50+ sites across 20+ states and DC.

We welcome volunteers from all Fairfield County towns, we are active in most towns, you will find an opportunity near you!

Food rescuers pick-up excess food from local food donors, including grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries, and other food providers, and deliver it to local social service agencies providing for the food insecure. Rescuers use their own vehicles and select rescues scheduled at times that are convenient for them to pick-up and drop-off the excess food. Rescues can often be completed in less than an hour, creating opportunities to build a rescue into your daily schedule.
