    About Mentor A Promise

Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth experiencing housing instability through mentorship, education, and community. Through storytelling and creative expression, MAP helps young people see themselves reflected in narratives of dignity, imagination, and possibility.

About PromiseStudios | Creative Production & Media

PromiseStudios is MAP’s creative production division—where storytelling becomes visual, cinematic, and experiential. The division leads animation, design, campaign production, and multimedia storytelling across the organization.

Within PromiseStudios, anime is not just content—it is a vehicle for identity, imagination, and emotional truth.

    Role Overview

We are seeking an Anime Creator / Writer to develop original anime-style narratives that translate lived experience into compelling, visually driven storytelling.

This role focuses on crafting immersive worlds, layered characters, and emotionally grounded story arcs that resonate deeply with youth. Stories should reflect themes of resilience, belonging, struggle, identity, and transformation.

The ideal candidate understands anime as both art and structure—balancing pacing, visual storytelling, and emotional depth while collaborating with artists and production teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop original anime concepts, story arcs, and episodic scripts
    • Build character systems, world logic, and long-form narrative structures
    • Write with strong visual orientation (scene composition, pacing, transitions)
    • Collaborate with storyboard artists, illustrators, and animation teams
    • Contribute to serialized storytelling and multi-episode development
    • Adapt narratives into animation-ready formats (scripts, storyboards, treatments)
    • Ensure all content is culturally responsive, age-appropriate, and dignity-centered
    • Align storytelling with MAP’s mission and youth-focused impact
    • Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via Google Workspace

    Qualifications

    Required

    • Strong storytelling and writing ability
    • Understanding of anime narrative structure, pacing, and visual storytelling
    • Ability to translate emotion into scene and character development
    • Collaborative mindset and openness to creative iteration
    • Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values

    Preferred

    • Experience writing anime, screenplays, comics, or serialized content
    • Portfolio or writing samples
    • Familiarity with anime genres and storytelling techniques
    • Experience working with creative or production teams
    • Interest in youth-centered storytelling and social impact narratives

    Commitment

    • Volunteer role
    • Approximately 5–10 hours per week
    • Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
    • Fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration

    What You’ll Gain

    • Experience developing original anime within a mission-driven creative studio
    • Collaboration with multidisciplinary creative teams (writers, artists, animators)
    • Opportunity to bring meaningful, youth-centered stories to life
    • Professional references and letters of recommendation
    • A meaningful role shaping narratives that expand imagination and identity

    How to Apply

Interested candidates must apply directly through Idealist and submit:

    • Resume (required)
    • Cover letter (required) describing relevant storytelling or writing experience and interest in MAP’s mission
    • Writing samples or portfolio (preferred)

Help build worlds where young people don’t just escape reality—but reimagine it.
