SENIOR FRIENDSHIP CENTERS FOOD BANK SUPPORT VOLUNTEER

Help get nutritious food to seniors in need in your area! Join a group of dedicated volunteers to sort and distribute food to seniors through our weekly drive-up food bank in partnership with All Faiths Food Bank.

DESCRIPTION: Senior Friendship Centers is seeking friendly volunteers to assist with food distribution while engaging with clients at our Venice Activity Center. Volunteers help unload and sort pallets of food, and then distribute to seniors enrolled in the program. Seniors drive-up to the distribution site, and volunteers help load the bags into their vehicles.

SCHEDULE: Weekly shift, on Wednesdays, 7:00am - 9:00am

LOCATION: Venice Activity Center, 2350 Scenic Drive, Venice, FL 34293

REPORTS TO: Center Assistant Manager

DUTIES:

• Assist with unloading food from pallets and sorting on to distribution tables.
• Greet drive-up clients, assist with food selection, and help load bags into vehicles.
• Assist with clean-up and taking leftover food to the activity center when distribution is complete.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Follow SFC guidelines and policies.
• Able to lift and carry at least 25lbs of food.
• Able to perform duties outdoors, rain or shine (the distribution area is covered).
• Excellent interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with seniors.
• Ability to interact professionally with all staff, clients, volunteers, and community partners.
• Friendly, flexible, able to handle challenges, and able to work with limited supervision.
• Must possess cultural awareness and sensitivity for all individuals and groups.
