About Us
Confronting Domestic Violence, Inc. (CDV) is a San Diego based nonprofit providing survivor support services and workplace violence prevention (SB 553) education for California employers. Grant funding directly supports the programs survivors rely on.
The Role
Research funding opportunities and help write grant proposals and letters of inquiry. You will work directly with our leadership team and see exactly how a proposal moves from research to submission to award.
Responsibilities
- Research grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and local or state funders
- Track deadlines, eligibility requirements, and submission guidelines
- Draft letters of inquiry, proposal narratives, and program descriptions
- Help build and maintain a reusable library of boilerplate language, org history, and program summaries
- Support reporting requirements for awarded grants
Qualifications
- Strong, clear, persuasive writing
- Detail oriented and comfortable following strict formatting and submission rules
- Able to research independently and organize findings
- Experience in grant writing, nonprofit development, technical writing, journalism, English, public policy, or social work is a plus but not required
- Students, career changers, and first time grant writers welcome. We will orient you to our programs and provide past materials to work from.
Programs You Should Know (or Be Willing to Learn)
Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word and Excel. Bonus: Candid or Foundation Directory, Grants.gov, Instrumentl, GrantStation, Submittable, or any donor CRM.
Time Commitment
5 to 10 hours per month (about 1 to 2 hours per week). Remote and flexible. Some deadlines are time sensitive, so we plan the calendar ahead together. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
What You Get
Real writing samples and proposal experience for your portfolio, direct mentorship and exposure to nonprofit fundraising strategy, a working understanding of the grant lifecycle from research to reporting, and a letter of recommendation for volunteers in good standing. Excellent for anyone building toward a development, fundraising, nonprofit management, or professional writing career.
One Small Ask
If you are only with us for a semester or a season, no problem at all. We would simply love it if you referred a friend or classmate to take your spot before you go. Our team runs on people who care.
