    Community Hospice Volunteer

The Community Hospice is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, accredited by the Community Health Accreditation Program. We are part of St. Peter's Health Partners and are privileged to work with every hospital in the region to provide hospice services. We serve more than 4,300 seriously ill patients and their families a year.

The elderly, terminally ill and dying are among the most vulnerable people in our society. Incredible advances in medical care and social services haven’t ended the tragedy of people dying alone or in pain.

Meeting that need is our mission:

The Community Hospice serves seriously ill people and their families during the process of dying and grieving. We enhance quality of life with comprehensive, compassionate services that respect the dignity of those we serve.

And we offer that help and comfort in eight counties in upstate New York: Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Columbia, Greene, Montgomery and Washington.

Community Hospice volunteers come from many different backgrounds and walks of life. What they have in common, however, is a full measure of compassion and the desire to help others experience the best possible quality of life.

Our volunteers enjoy being with people and are good listeners. They are reliable, dependable, work well as part of a team and bring with them a good sense of humor because they know that everyone --- young, old, healthy, sick –feels better when they share a laugh.

Many of our volunteers visit Hospice patients at home, in the nursing home or hospital, providing companionship and helping out as any friend or neighbor would. They sit and talk, run errands or sometimes prepare light meals.

Other volunteers help Hospice staff members with office work or fundraising events.

Cómo participar como voluntario(a) en esta oportunidad

    Dear Friend -

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Community Hospice! Before accepting an assignment, volunteers must complete our training program; we have revised and updated our training in light of COVID-19 to incorporate additional safety measures and a hybrid learning experience.

Hospice is a unique and rewarding place in which to support patients and families within our community. The training program is comprehensive and fundamental in becoming a knowledgeable and valued volunteer. Training consists of virtual and in-person instruction totaling approximately 24 hrs. over a two-week period. Following completion of the training, we expect volunteers to commit to at least one year of service, with a minimum requirement of 4 hrs. per month.

To apply, please email ascarlett@communityhospice.org for the application. Once in receipt of your application, we will reach out when training dates are established to ascertain your availability and reschedule an interview.

Again, thank you for your interest in our services and we look forward to meeting with you soon. Please reach out should you have any questions.
