Digital Communications Volunteer Opportunity: Climate Reality Cape Fear

Location: Wilmington, NC | Remote/Hybrid
Join Climate Reality Cape Fear and gain hands-on experience in climate communications and digital advocacy. We’re looking for a creative and motivated individual (or three!) to help shape our online presence and engage our community on the most urgent issue of our time — climate change and its local impacts on the Cape Fear region.
While this volunteer position is unpaid, the benefits are career forward:

- Flexible time commitment of approximately 5 hours per week (if you’re part of a program requiring more or less hours per week of volunteer work, we’re flexible!)
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop engaging social media content (posts, graphics, short videos) for platforms including Instagram and Facebook
- Maintain a consistent posting schedule of 2 posts per week across platforms (no media monitoring needed)
- Design print event flyers and graphics for chapter activities and events
- Update and maintain the chapter’s Squarespace website, including content updates, event listings, and page edits
- Collaborate with the chapter team on messaging and content ideas to fill an editorial calendar
Preferred Tools
- Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Express, or similar design tools
- Familiarity with multiple social media platforms
- Basic video editing skills (Reels experience a plus)
- Experience with Squarespace or similar website platforms a plus
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Climate Reality Cape Fear is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and operates on a strictly nonpartisan basis. We do not support or oppose any political party or candidate. Our mission is to educate and engage the Cape Fear community on the science, impacts, and solutions of climate change.
