    Become a Dyslexia/Literacy Tutor

    Instructions for Interested Volunteers

    Thank you for your interest in becoming a reading tutor and making a lasting impact in a child’s life. To ensure the safety and success of our students, all volunteers and paid tutors must complete the following steps:

    1. Complete the Volunteer Application

    Submit the online volunteer application in full. Please ensure all contact information and availability details are accurate.

    1. Required Documentation

    Applicants may be asked to upload or submit additional documents, including:

    • A current résumé or brief summary of relevant experience (preferred format: PDF or Word)
    • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States, if applicable
    1. Background Check (Required)

    All volunteers and paid tutors must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to placement. This includes:

    • Criminal background screening
    • Adult abuse registry check
    • Child abuse and neglect registry check

    Background checks are required to protect the children and families we serve and are conducted in accordance with state and federal regulations.

    1. Training Requirement

    All tutors must complete paid training prior to working with students. Training will include:

    • Structured literacy and dyslexia-informed instruction
    • Child safety and confidentiality guidelines
    • Program expectations and tutoring protocols
    1. Time Commitment

    Volunteers must be available for a minimum of six hours per week, providing one-hour tutoring sessions per student. Consistency is essential for student progress.

    1. Tutoring Format & Location
    • Hybrid and in-person tutoring opportunities are available
    • In-person tutoring is offered at designated site locations for volunteers residing in the Omaha NE, Greater Omaha and State of NE

    Once all requirements are completed and approved, volunteers will be matched with students based on availability and program needs.
