    Volunteer Development Coordinator

    ABOUT VETERAN PARENT PROJECT

Veteran Parent Project (VPP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Catawba, NC, running a free 12-week entrepreneurship cohort for single-parent veterans. Our program provides childcare cost-offset stipends, business curriculum and coaching, technology access, and a launch grant at graduation — helping roughly 30 veterans a year launch their legacy. Approximately 80 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to programs.

    THE ROLE

VPP is seeking a Volunteer Development Coordinator to help build and grow our donor and sponsor base — including individual donors, corporate sponsors, and event sponsorships such as our annual Golf Classic. As a young, growing nonprofit, VPP is not yet able to offer a salaried development position — but we are actively working toward one, and this role is the on-ramp to it. As VPP secures dedicated development funding (through event proceeds, grants, or major gifts this role helps bring in), the Volunteer Development Coordinator will be the first candidate considered to move into a paid, compensated position. This is a relationship-driven role suited to someone who is energized by connecting with people, comfortable making the ask, and motivated by seeing a direct, measurable impact on veteran families — and who wants to help build a development function from the ground up.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors, corporate sponsors, and grant opportunities
    • Lead sponsor outreach for VPP's signature events, including the annual Golf Classic sponsorship tiers
    • Maintain accurate donor and sponsor records, ensuring timely acknowledgment letters and stewardship touchpoints
    • Represent VPP at community events, veteran-service organization meetings, and networking opportunities across the Carolinas
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director on fundraising strategy, campaign calendars, and annual fund goals
    • Track and report progress against fundraising goals to the Executive Director and Board

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 2+ years of fundraising, sales, business development, or relationship-management experience (nonprofit development experience a plus)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable public speaking and making direct donor asks
    • Self-directed and organized; able to manage a pipeline of prospects independently
    • Genuine alignment with VPP's mission of empowering veteran entrepreneurs
    • Familiarity with CRM/donor-tracking tools a plus

COMPENSATION & PATH TO PAID ROLE

This position begins as a volunteer role. VPP is transparent that we are a young organization and cannot yet offer salaried development compensation — but building toward a paid position is a Board priority, and this role is the defined path to get there:

Now: Volunteer position. VPP will cover reasonable, pre-approved out-of-pocket expenses tied to donor meetings and event representation (mileage, parking, etc.)

Transition trigger: Once VPP reaches a defined funding milestone — for example, a set amount in new sponsorships/gifts secured, or a capacity-building grant awarded — the Board will convert this into a paid role

Paid structure (once triggered): A base stipend or hourly rate, plus a capped, goal-based bonus tied to specific board-approved milestones (e.g., a flat bonus per new sponsor secured at a given tier). VPP does not pay fundraisers a straight percentage of funds raised, in line with AFP Code of Ethics and IRS reasonable-compensation guidance for 501(c)(3)s

Recognition: The Volunteer Development Coordinator will be publicly credited in VPP materials and given first consideration for the paid role once it's funded

Specific milestone thresholds and paid-role terms are set and approved by the Board of Directors.
