Advisory Committee Liaison to the Board - Shared-Equity Senior Housing Nonprofit

Boomers Collaborative Foundation seeks an Austin-area adult age 55 or older for a stipend-supported community leadership position connecting prospective seniors, the Advisory Committee, and our Board. We are looking for someone who enjoys connecting with other seniors and would like to help ensure that prospective resident-members have a meaningful voice in shaping a new approach to affordable senior housing.

We are an Austin-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to create mixed-use, limited-equity cooperative housing where older adults can age together with greater affordability, stability, and connection. With our market study completed and funded community outreach underway, we are now engaging seniors and organizing the prospective membership needed to move the first community forward.

The Advisory Committee will be an early leadership body for prospective resident-members—not simply a group offering comments from the sidelines. Its members will help identify senior concerns, review materials, support outreach, shape site-specific recommendations, and participate in developing the proposed original cooperative bylaws.

The liaison will serve as an important connection between prospective seniors, the Advisory Committee, and the Boomers Collaborative Foundation Board. This person will attend monthly Board meetings as a nonvoting participant, meet with seniors where they are, and help carry information, questions, and perspectives between seniors and the Board. Once the Advisory Committee is established, the liaison will participate in its meetings and substantive work.

This is a stipend-supported community leadership position funded through Boomers Collaborative’s existing grant support. The stipend recognizes the liaison’s continuing participation in Board meetings, senior engagement, and Advisory Committee work.

How you can help ...

• Attend monthly Boomers Collaborative Foundation Board meetings as a nonvoting participant
• Meet individually or in small groups with prospective seniors throughout the Austin Metro Area
• Help prospective seniors understand the Boomers Collaborative Model and the path from initial interest to Provisional Membership and possible Advisory Committee participation
• Listen carefully to seniors’ questions, concerns, needs, and ideas and communicate them accurately to the Board
• Build continuing relationships with Provisional Members and seniors selected to serve on the Advisory Committee
• Participate in Advisory Committee meetings and help maintain communication between the Committee and the Board
• Assist with occasional community education meetings, listening sessions, surveys, and follow-up conversations

• Is interested in affordable senior housing, cooperative ownership, aging in community, or senior engagement
• Is willing to learn the Boomers Collaborative Model and represent it accurately

Prior Board, housing, or cooperative experience is not required. Familiarity with senior services, community outreach, peer engagement, education, or advisory groups would be helpful.

Because this role involves meeting seniors where they are, the liaison must have a car and be able to drive to locations throughout the Austin Metro Area. Board meetings are generally held virtually.
