Volunteer Accountant/Bookkeeper

About us

LOT2545 is a small U.S. 501(c)(3) that works with street-connected young people in Kabale and Kampala, Uganda. We help kids get back home to family, stay in school, and build a future on their own terms. We also run The Gathering Place, a restaurant and community space in Kabale that employs young people and brings in income so the work can keep going without depending only on donors.

We're all volunteer and pretty small. Our accountant stepped away, and the books have been landing on me (the founder) on top of everything else. I'd love to find someone who actually knows what they're doing and wants to put their skills toward something real.

What we need help with

• Oregon and federal filings. Make sure our state filings are current and help us stay on track with annual deadlines, including the IRS 990.
• Monthly reconciliation. Go through our monthly spending, match it up, and flag anything that doesn't look right.
• Restaurant sales tracking. Help us figure out the best way to track sales at The Gathering Place. Right now [describe current system, e.g. paper receipts / a notebook / a spreadsheet]. We need something simple that works for staff here and gives us clean numbers on the U.S. side. Keep in mind sales are in Ugandan shillings and the internet isn't always reliable.

Who we're looking for

• Experience with nonprofit accounting (CPA or EA is a big plus but not required)
• Familiar with Oregon nonprofit requirements, or willing to learn them
• Patient, organized, and comfortable working with someone on a different time zone (Uganda is UTC+3)
