Classroom Grandparents Needed Throughout Hillsborough County

You have a lifetime of experience. Why not share it with the next generation?

The Friends Program connects adults age 55+ with opportunities to serve children across Hillsborough County and beyond as classroom volunteers. Our volunteers support students in schools, childcare centers, and afterschool programs by offering consistent social, emotional, and academic support. You might read one-on-one with a student, help a small group play an educational game, offer gentle guidance during classroom transitions, or simply be a calming presence for a child who needs extra reassurance. Volunteers commit at least 10 hours per week and become an important part of the educational team.

Volunteers receive ongoing training and support, monthly workshops, and enjoy a renewed sense of purpose. Foster Grandparents are highly valued members of school communities.

Participants who meet certain income guidelines may qualify for a modest, tax-exempt stipend that does notimpact Social Security, housing, SNAP, or other benefits.
