First & Gold Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access, opportunity, and equity for youth and families through sports, education, and community-based programming. We are in an early but critical growth phase, building strong governance, financial stewardship, and long-term sustainability.
Position Overview
The First & Gold Foundation is seeking a Volunteer Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic and operational financial leadership. This role is ideal for a finance professional who wants to apply their expertise to a mission-driven organization and help build a strong financial foundation during a period of growth.
The CFO will work closely with the Executive Director, and Managing Director to ensure sound financial planning, compliance, and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Oversight
- Develop and oversee the organization’s financial strategy and long-term financial planning
- Create and monitor annual budgets aligned with programmatic goals
- Provide financial forecasting and scenario planning to support organizational growth
Accounting & Financial Management
- Oversee bookkeeping, accounting systems, and financial controls
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, annual)
- Review and present financial statements to leadership.
- Monitor cash flow, reserves, and financial risk
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and best practices
- Support IRS filings (e.g., Form 990) and state reporting requirements
- Assist with audit preparation or financial reviews, as needed
- Help establish and refine financial policies and procedures
Fundraising & Sustainability Support
- Partner with leadership on funding strategy, grants, and donor stewardship
- Provide financial input on program costs, scholarships, and tournament funding
- Support transparency and accountability to funders and stakeholders
Qualifications
- Background in finance, accounting, or related field (CPA, MBA, or equivalent experience preferred)
- Experience with nonprofit financial management strongly preferred
- Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Familiarity with nonprofit compliance and governance best practices
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to think strategically
- Collaborative, mission-driven mindset
Time Commitment
- Approximately 10–12 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling; some evening availability for board or leadership meetings may be required
