The New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra (NBCO) is seeking local volunteers to assist with operations and logistics at its in-person performances. Event volunteers play an important role in ensuring that patrons have a positive, welcoming experience, and that the NBCO can successfully implement its programming as it seeks to increase access to classical music in central New Jersey. The relevant season's events are listed after the position qualifications.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in the implementation of in-person marquee concerts, salon concerts, and other NBCO engagements. See the event listing at the end of this position description for the 2026–27 season.
    • Welcome patrons, assist with ticketing / registration, distribute programs, and answer general inquiries from patrons about the organization, programming, the venue, etc.; direct patrons to NBCO staff members for all other inquiries.
    • Assist NBCO staff in preparing venues for performances, including setting up the ticketing station, patron seating, and performer seating as applicable; assist in event teardown as applicable.
    • Help distribute promotional material and encourage patrons to continue supporting the NBCO.
    • Other duties as needed at events to support the organization's mission.

    Qualifications

    • An interest in classical music, the arts, and the role that the arts play in building community.
    • Reliability, attention to detail, a friendly demeanor, and a general comfort engaging with individuals from a diversity of backgrounds.
    • An ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
    • Transportation to and from in-person events in and around central New Jersey, with the bulk of performances taking place near New Brunswick, New Jersey.
    • Willingness to assist with a variety of tasks related to event implementation and able to pivot nimbly as needs arise.

We encourage students, working professionals, retirees, and members of the local community to apply. Prior volunteer experience is welcome but not required. No professional music or arts experience is required.

Applicants should expect a screening prior to acceptance and, if selected, a brief orientation prior to their first event.
