We are seeking a Social Media Director to lead Fruitslice’s social media strategy and bring our brand to life online.
This person will set the vision, build a team, and create systems so that engaging, high-quality content is produced with consistency and ease. You’ll work at the intersection of editorial, art, and development, using social media to amplify our voice, expand our community, and direct audiences to support us through print purchases and fundraising campaigns.
Responsibilities
- Strategy & Vision: Develop and execute a social media strategy that reflects Fruitslice’s mission, drives engagement, and builds on our existing following.
- Team Leadership: Build, lead, and mentor a social media team, creating clear systems and workflows for sustainable, high-quality content production.
- Content Creation: Oversee and occasionally create posts, reels, carousels, and campaigns that align with our editorial and artistic voice.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with Art Directors to ensure visuals are brand-aligned and compelling.
- Partner with the Director of Development to plan and advise on social media fundraising and audience engagement campaigns.
- Coordinate with editorial staff to spotlight new work, issues, and events.
- Analytics & Growth: Monitor performance metrics, report on analytics, and adjust strategy to ensure steady growth and impact.
- Community Engagement: Dialogue with our audience and build stronger connections within the Queer community.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in social media strategy and content creation (bonus if for a literary, arts, or nonprofit org).
- Excited about brand storytelling and translating big ideas into engaging posts.
- Skilled at building systems, managing people, and working collaboratively across teams.
- Familiar with analytics tools and able to translate insights into strategy shifts.
- Passionate about Queer arts, culture, and community.
- Someone comfortable moving at a sustainable, self-directed pace.
We ask for consistency and communication, not perfection or immediate action on every front.
This is a volunteer role. Priority is given to QTPOC individuals and people from other intersectional and historically marginalized communities. We recognize that unpaid creative work can be exploitative and we actively work to push back against that. We work to ensure that all roles at Fruitslice are collaborative, flexible, and nourishing. In addition to being part of a deeply passionate team where your voice will be genuinely valued, you’ll have access to professional development support, an active peer community, and internal mutual aid resources. We believe in resourcing each other however we can.
We can’t wait to meet you.
