Join the Movement to Mentor a Latina in Central Islip, NY!

On October 21, 2021, Latina Equal Pay Day, Governor Hochul announced the launch of the Latina MentoringInitiative to support young Latinas and begin leveling the playing field via mentoring. The New York StateMentoring Program (a program under CCF) in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Diversity andInclusion and Office of Women’s Affairs, and Latina government, community and corporate leaders, cametogether to build LMI for the young Latinas of New York.

By connecting positive, caring Latina mentors with Latina youth, LMI empowers, uplifts and shapes futureLatina leaders, ages 8 to 24, by building soft skills, confidence and nurturing aspirations via personal andprofessional development. Since 2021, LMI has created a culturally responsive and safe space that buildscommunity where youth are affirmed, inspired by Latinx representation, and encouraged to expand theirpossibilities.

We are currently looking for caring, dependable volunteers to serve as mentors for young Latina in Brentwood, NY. As an LMI mentor, you'll spend 1.5 hours every other week with a Latina at thier school during afterschool hours.

We're Looking for Volunteers Who Are:

• At least 22 years old with lived experience
• Friendly, patience and reliable
• Able to commit to weekly visits during the school year
• Willing to complete a background check and attend a virtual mentoring training
