The chapter volunteer coordinator (VC) connects volunteer applicants with our
mission-driven work through the local chapter based on the applicants’ areas of
interest, to best utilize the applicant’s available time and talents. The VC works
closely with the assigned field staff and local board to manage, develop, and grow
the volunteer capacity of their chapter.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Must be an outgoing personality that enjoys engaging with people
- Must have availability to maintain long-term communications with applicants, with the ability to assign roles and keep volunteers on track/engaged at events as needed
- Must be comfortable with public speaking in order to host onboarding presentations for new volunteers
- Must be willing to hold this role for a minimum of two years
- Must be willing to work collaboratively with local AFSP field staff and chapter leadership
- Must review and sign the AFSP Volunteer Code of Conduct
Desired Qualities
- Already familiar with AFSP in some way (volunteer, board member or advocate)
- Has participated (or willing to participate) in Talk Saves Lives, safeTALK or ASIST
- Interested in additional training to become a presenter of TSL and AFSP 101, Volunteer Onboarding Presentation
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, strong in communications (phone, text, email), and an active participant on social media
- Knowledge of the chapter structure and leadership to be able to effectively connect volunteers with the right chapter leaders based on their areas of interest
Time Commitment
Must have availability to commit to 2-5 volunteer hours per week.
Responsibilities
The VC will oversee and lead the volunteer committee managing all aspects of the chapter volunteer
program including recruitment, engagement, orientation and support, informal evaluation, and recognition. VC will work closely with the chapter board, committee chairs and field staff to assess the volunteer needs of the chapter.
The VC will follow the Volunteer Toolkit to implement best practices for volunteer cultivation and volunteer management for the chapter.
