Help an adult learn to read!
We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to help an adult improve their reading and writing skills. With your assistance learners will gain new opportunities such as: receiving a job promotion or being able to communicate with their children’s teachers.
No experience is required -- just a desire to help an adult achieve their literacy goals!
Volunteers should be able to:
- tutor at least once a week (1-2 hours each session)
- commit to a minimum of 6 months or longer
- complete a training process before the start of your tutoring
- participate in tutor in-service meetings (every 6-8 weeks) to reinforce your tutoring skills and learn new program information
- regularly check your email
Requirements to apply:
- 18 or older
- read, write, and speak English clearly
- have basic computer skills
Once you have completed the training, you will be matched with a learner based on your time availability. Tutoring will take place at the library.
Basic learning materials are provided to both learners and tutors.
The literacy staff will provide you with assistance and support throughout the program.
