Overview

The Connex Foundation is seeking a skilled web design and development professional to assist with the comprehensive refresh and modernization of the Foundation’s website on a pro bono basis. This project is an opportunity to support a mission-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through hands-on service, workforce development, and long-term impact.

The goal of this engagement is to improve branding, functionality, and user experience while clearly communicating the Foundation’s mission, programs, and measurable impact.

About the Connex Foundation

The Connex Foundation is committed to strengthening communities by supporting mission-driven nonprofit organizations and investing in long-term, sustainable impact. Through direct service, professional expertise, and financial support, the Foundation works alongside community partners to help them expand their capacity and better serve those in need.

A core initiative of the Foundation is The Impact Project, which focuses on supporting local communities and rehabilitating nonprofit organizations so they can operate more effectively. Through this initiative, the Connex Foundation donates both time and expertise to assist nonprofit partners with facility construction, renovation, and ongoing facility needs. This includes hands-on involvement in building, improving, and maintaining physical spaces that are essential to nonprofit operations and long-term sustainability.

In addition to facility support, the Connex Foundation provides scholarships designed to bridge the gap in the skilled trades, supporting individuals who seek careers in facilities management, construction, and related fields. These scholarships expand access to education and training, strengthen the workforce, and create economic opportunity while reinforcing the Foundation’s commitment to community development.

Scope of Work

The selected volunteer consultant or contractor will collaborate closely with Connex Foundation leadership to deliver a refreshed, modern, and functional website. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Branding & Visual Design

• Update or refine the Connex Foundation logo and overall visual identity
• Establish consistent branding across all website pages, including fonts, colors, imagery, and layout
• Modernize the look and feel of the website to align with the Foundation’s professionalism, mission, and values

1. Website Design & User Experience

• Improve site navigation, structure, and usability
• Optimize layouts for clarity, accessibility, and user engagement
• Ensure full mobile responsiveness and compatibility across major browsers and devices

1. Website Functionality & Features

• Design and implement an on-site counter or visual element to highlight measurable impact (e.g., volunteer hours, projects completed, funds raised, scholarships awarded)
• Improve page performance, load speed, and overall site stability
• Ensure the website is intuitive and easy for internal staff to update and maintain

1. Content Organization & Optimization

• Review, organize, and refine existing content for clarity and effectiveness
• Create or enhance pages highlighting Foundation initiatives, programs, partnerships, and community impact
• Apply basic SEO best practices to improve visibility and reach

1. Technical & Compliance Considerations

• Implement accessibility best practices in alignment with ADA/WCAG guidelines
• Ensure appropriate security standards and hosting compatibility
• Provide documentation and/or light training to enable ongoing internal updates

Deliverables

• Updated website design and layout
• Refreshed logo and branding elements (if applicable)
• Functional impact counter or tracking feature
• Mobile-optimized, accessible website
• Documentation or guidance for future maintenance and updates

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in website design and development (nonprofit experience preferred but not required)
• Strong understanding of branding, UX/UI principles, and responsive design
• Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress or similar platforms)
• Ability to manage a project independently and collaborate with stakeholders
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to mission-driven work

• Pro bono / volunteer engagement
• No financial compensation; this role is intended for individuals or teams seeking to contribute their skills in support of a nonprofit mission
• Timeline to be mutually agreed upon based on availability and scope
