Be a Mentor to an Elementary Student in Troy for Just One Hour a Week

Are you looking for a fun, impactful way to give back to your community?

The New York State Mentoring Program is recruiting committed, enthusiastic volunteers to serve as encouraging and committed mentors for elementary students at Carroll Hill Elementary School in Troy, NY for the upcoming year. Sessions take place every Thursday during afterschool from 2:15pm-3:15pm.

As a site-based mentor, you will be paired 1-to-1 with a student who would benefit from some extra support in their corner. Mentoring happens at the school during the student's lunch or free period. It's structured, consistent, and supervised, making easier for your schedule too. Whether you are creating a project together, playing a board game or chatting about their week, your consistent presence helps the students thrive as you express care, provide support and expand possibilities.

We're Looking for Volunteers Who Are:

• At least 18 years old
• Friendly, patience and reliable
• Able to commit to weekly visits during the school year
• Willing to complete a background check (with fingerprinting) and attend a virtual mentoring training

Mentors Can:

• Help a child develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills
• Build meaningful connections
• Give back to your community in just 1 hour a week
