Adult Learning Tutors Wanted!!!!!!

Elev8 Baltimore is looking for volunteers to tutor adult learners at South Baltimore Adult High School.

What is the South Baltimore Adult High School

Elev8 Baltimore is the operator of the South Baltimore Adult High School (SBAHS). The adult high school program was approved by the Maryland State Legislature in 2017 for adults who are 21 years old or older to return to school and earn their high school diploma. SBAHS is a self-paced learning program offered to Marylanders in-person and virtually. For our students, we believe that providing strategic tutoring is critical to ensuring the successful completion and mastery of academic content. Students who attend the SBAHS program have a range of academic skills and history, including low literacy skills and a lack of confidence in core subject areas.

What is the Role of the Tutors?

Tutors work directly with students referred by the SBHS staff to receive additional support. Tutoring sessions are offered online and in-person weekly. Tutors can customize their tutoring schedules each semester. The Academic Tutor will support adult high school students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring in high school-level math and reading. This position helps students build foundational academic skills, improve course performance, and increase confidence in core subject areas.

Is this an in person one on one or is this virtual?

Tutors may work with students either in-person or virtually and will collaborate closely with instructional staff to align support with student learning goals and curriculum standards.

Are there any qualifications needed to become a tutor?

• High school diploma required
• Strong proficiency in high school-level math and reading required
• Experience tutoring or working with adult learners preferred
• Basic technology proficiency required, including the ability to use Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other web conferencing tools
• Strong communication, patience, and interpersonal skills
