    Who We Are

National Wildfire Tracking (NWTT) is a non-profit, non-partisan public safety information and situational awareness organization focused on wildfires, severe weather, and disaster events across the United States. Our mission is to deliver timely, verified, and actionable information that helps communities, responders, and decision-makers understand developing incidents in real time. We are expanding our team and looking for volunteer desk reporters around the US!

What You Will Do as a Volunteer Desk Reporter:

    • Monitor CAD, alerts, and weather data for wildfire, severe weather, and disaster info.
    • Write incident alerts and provide updates in real time via our social media channels
    • Work individually or with other team members to verify details of and develop incident reports.

    What You Bring:

    • Interest in wildfire management, natural disaster response, public service, reporting, and/or journalism is essential.
    • Previous experience in the field is a plus, but not required as NWTT provides comprehensive onboarding, training, guidebooks, and ongoing team support to ensure individuals at any experience level are set up for success.
    • Strong communication and writing skills.
    • Previous experience with data monitoring and/or radio scanning is a plus, but not required.
    • Ability to work in a remote setting and work both individually and collaboratively with a team across the country.

    Minimum Commitment:

    • 1 hour/week is encouraged, but no less than 2 hours/month is required to stay active. Hours are trackable for service hours documentation.

    Interview Process:

NWTT prides itself on having a transparent volunteer onboarding process. You can expect the process to go as followed:
