    Community Cat Caretaker

Be the hero in a feral cat's day! As a Feral or Community Cat Caretaker, you will look after the health and well-being of a feral cat colony. You'll provide food and water for the cats and notify the lead volunteer when a cat is sick. On-site training and cat food will be provided, as needed.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Deliver food and water to assigned colony/colonies on your assigned day(s).
    • Coordinate with a substitute caretaker when you are unavailable to feed on your regular day(s) due to vacation, illness, etc.
    • Monitor the health and well-being of the cats in your colony. Report any sick, injured, pregnant, unfixed or new cats to the lead volunteer.
    • Coordinate with other caretakers or lead to provide feeding stations and shelters for your colony.
    • Keep the colony site feeding stations and shelters clean and out-of-sight, if possible.
    • Maintain discretion and keep colony feeding locations confidential.

    LOCATION: Sterling, VA

TIME COMMITMENT: Once per week to daily, depending on your availability. It is imperative that caretakers visit their assigned colony on their assigned day(s) at about the same time (within an hour or two) to ensure that the maximum number of cats will be fed.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from the site.
    • Ability to communicate in a timely fashion and work in a collegial way with other cat colony caretakers.
    • Ability to detect when a cat is unwell and needs medical attention.
    • Completion of HSLC Orientation.
    • Willingness to positively represent HSLC and follow guidelines.

BENEFITS of VOLUNTEERING IN THIS ROLE:

    • Direct and ongoing impact on improving the lives of cats in our community.
    • Invitation to volunteer appreciation events.
    • Opportunity to be highlighted in HSLC's newsletters.
