Retired? Share Your Time, Stories, and Compassion as a Hospice Volunteer

Have a few hours each week and a heart for helping others?

Providence Hospice is inviting retired members of our community to join our volunteer team and bring comfort and companionship to patients during an important time in their lives.

Many of our best hospice volunteers are retirees who enjoy meaningful conversations, listening to life stories, sharing a laugh, or simply sitting quietly with someone who appreciates the company. Your presence can brighten someone’s day and help families feel supported.

Our hospice team cares for patients wherever they call home. Volunteer visits may take place in a private residence, assisted living community, or nursing facility.

This is an independent volunteer opportunity where you can visit patients one-on-one once you feel comfortable. At the same time, you are never alone. Our volunteers are part of a caring team that works closely with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and hospice staff.

We also gather weekly as a volunteer team to touch base, share experiences, and support one another.

Volunteers receive training at the beginning of their journey and ongoing support throughout their time with our hospice team.

Many volunteers are retired teachers, veterans, caregivers, and community members who simply enjoy sitting with others and making someone’s day a little brighter.

Volunteer Commitment

• About 4 hours per week

• Volunteers set their own schedule

• Choose the patients you would like to visit

• Opportunities within a 60-mile radius of Wichita (many patients in Wichita)

No medical experience is needed. Kindness, patience, and a willingness to connect with others are what matter most.

Many volunteers tell us that hospice volunteering becomes one of the most meaningful things they do in retirement.
