Help Shape the Public Voice of The Nurturing Place
The Nurturing Place (TNP) is an early-stage Austin-based nonprofit building a new model for community well-being. We believe healing is strengthened through relationships, movement, nature, learning, creativity, and a deep sense of belonging. Our vision is to create welcoming community spaces where people can access diverse pathways to well-being, discover what works for them, and experience the support of a caring community.
We're entering an exciting new chapter. After two years of research, partnership building, and planning, The Nurturing Place is preparing to launch its first community location and pilot program. We're looking for a communications volunteer who wants to help tell that story and build the public voice of an organization from its earliest days.
About the Role
As our Communications & Community Engagement Lead, you'll help shape TNP's public presence and ensure our message is thoughtful, consistent, and engaging across multiple audiences.
Your work will help introduce a new vision for community well-being to Austin and inspire people to become participants, volunteers, partners, advocates, and supporters.
We'll shape the role around your strengths and interests. Whether you enjoy writing, strategy, social media, branding, design, storytelling, or a combination of these, we'd love to build on what energizes you.
Responsibilities
Storytelling
- Capture stories from advisors, volunteers, practitioners, community partners, and future participants.
- Help communicate our journey as we build The Nurturing Place.
- Identify opportunities to highlight the people, ideas, and partnerships shaping the organization.
Thought Leadership & Content Creation
- Transform research, meetings, interviews, and conversations into compelling content.
- Help communicate ideas around mental health, belonging, community, and holistic well-being.
- Repurpose our research report, presentations, videos, interviews, and other existing assets into engaging content across multiple channels.
- Create articles, graphics, social media posts, and educational content that help tell our story.
Social Media
- Manage TNP's LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.
- Develop a simple monthly communications calendar.
- Create and publish approximately one thoughtful post each week.
- Repurpose content across platforms.
- Monitor engagement and recommend opportunities to grow our reach.
Communications Strategy
- Help shape and steward TNP's public voice across all communications.
- Identify opportunities to increase awareness, engagement, and community support.
- Recommend creative ways to build visibility and strengthen our brand.
Board & Advisory Communications
- Draft LinkedIn posts for board members, advisory board members, and community champions.
- Create messaging and social media toolkits they can personalize and share.
- Help amplify the voices of those supporting TNP.
Additional Projects
Depending on your interests and experience, you may also help with:
- Monthly newsletters
- Website updates
- Canva graphics
- Event promotion
- Press releases and media outreach
- Communications planning
- Building and organizing a library of content and brand assets
Experience That Would Be Helpful
We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys writing and storytelling.
- Has experience with LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Has strong written communication skills.
- Is organized, proactive, and self-directed.
- Has an eye for thoughtful design and branding (Canva experience is a plus).
- Believes in the power of community, connection, and whole-person well-being.
- Is excited about helping build something meaningful from the beginning.
If you don't meet every qualification but are excited about our mission and believe you'd be a great fit, we encourage you to apply.
Time Commitment
Approximately 5–8 hours per week, with flexibility around your schedule.
Why Volunteer?
This is an opportunity to help build something from the ground up. You'll work closely with the founder and leadership team to shape the public voice of a nonprofit with an ambitious vision for community well-being. Your ideas, creativity, and perspective will have a visible impact as we grow.
You'll also gain experience in nonprofit communications, strategic storytelling, brand development, thought leadership, and mission-driven marketing while building a portfolio of meaningful work.
If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity where you can take ownership, develop your skills, and contribute to a mission that has the potential to positively impact thousands of lives, we'd love to hear from you.
