    Descripción

Greek Teacher & Local Integration Officer

We are looking for people who can commit for a minimum of 10 weeks and deliver Greek classes to refugees and asylum seekers in the Epirus region of Northern Greece, as well as assist in the implementation of integration activities. The ideal candidate would have experience teaching Greek as a foreign/second language and would possess a strong understanding of or passion for the context we work in.

    Your role would include:

    • Planning and delivering lessons for classes that can range from A0 (illiteracy) to B2, taking into account individual differences in level within each class
    • Preparing class materials and assessments
    • Maintaining necessary records, files, reports, databases, and resource materials for all activities and projects
    • Empowering students with interpersonal – and life – skills; and incorporating these skills into lesson planning
    • Working closely with the Education Manager to ensure the programme is being delivered to the expected standards of Second Tree
    • Supporting the team on the ground by ensuring good levels of engagement with the community during activities and projects
    • Researching and summarising relevant information in community reports and project deliverables
    • Engaging with community members and building trusting relationships

    You should be able to:

    • Care for people: the interests of the people we work with should always be your first concern
    • Work independently and in a team
    • Have strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills
    • Communicate in an open, honest, direct manner
    • Manage a wide range of tasks and intense workloads effectively and efficiently
    • Be dependable, and willing to adapt when necessary
    • Be willing to enforce strict classroom management
    • Be able to give and receive feedback in the most straightforward way

    The ideal candidate will have:

    • Experience working in the refugee context
    • Experience teaching low-level literacy students

    What do we offer?

    • A nurturing and collaborative working environment. We work hard to help our team members grow; investing in personal and professional development.
    • Accommodation in a shared house
    • Transportation to/from work
    • After completion of a three-month trial, if you commit long-term, a small monthly expenses refund

In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the shared houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the shared houses are full, this would allow us to offer an opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.

    Looking for an internship?

If, because of your degree or for any other reason, you would like to have your period at Second Tree credited as an internship, just apply to the vacancy that you’re interested in and mention this. We have agreements with several universities across Europe, and in many other cases, these agreements can be developed on an ad hoc basis.

    Notes:

    1) This is a full-time position, but it can be altered to fit a part-time commitment. If you’re interested in this option, please mention this in your application.

    2) If you require a visa to stay in Greece for the minimum ten-week commitment, please know that as a Greek NGO, we are unable to sponsor your visa.
