Veteran Volunteer to companion Veteran palliative and/or hospice patients on service with TRU Community Care.
Veterans have a unique way of connecting with fellow Veterans—especially those facing serious illness or end of life. Your shared experience creates trust, comfort, and space for meaningful conversation. Sometimes patients want to reflect on their service; sometimes they simply want the steady presence of someone who “gets it.” Your willingness to hold these stories—and this shared humanity—can make an extraordinary difference.
As a Veteran volunteer, you may offer companionship, support life review, and participate in small recognition ceremonies that honor a Veteran’s service. No hospice experience is required; TRU provides thorough, engaging training. After training, volunteers choose patient assignments that fit their schedule and comfort.
Your service is truly needed. Please consider companioning our community’s Veterans at this tender and important time of life.
Veteran volunteers will meet 1-2x/month with palliative patients or 3-4x/month with hospice patients.
