Omuto Global Ambassadors Program (OGAP) is a youth-led, skills-based international volunteer program hosted by Omuto Foundation in Mpigi District, Uganda, with both remote and hybrid options. Under the principle “Build WITH us, not FOR us,” OGAP connects skilled volunteers to Omuto’s existing youth programs in leadership, climate action, safe water, sports for development, and youth enterprise.
Volunteers are matched to one of five flagship projects based on their skills and availability: Omuto Impact Lab (data, research, storytelling), GreenRoots Tech Hub (climate and appropriate technology), Football for Futures (sports and safeguarding), Water Wisdom Initiative (WASH and public health), and Omuto Market (youth enterprise and digital marketing). Roles are clearly defined and output‑driven, with volunteers expected to leave behind tools, systems, and training that local youth can continue using long after the placement ends.
There are four ways to get involved, depending on your experience and time: Project Fellows (10–16 weeks, in‑person in Uganda), Skills Sprints (4–8 weeks, remote or hybrid), Youth Exchange Partners (6–8 weeks, remote or hybrid), and Strategic Advisors (1–2 years, remote). Typical responsibilities include designing and testing tools (frameworks, dashboards, curricula, WASH systems, business models), training and mentoring Omuto youth leaders, and documenting impact through reports, case studies, and media with Omuto Pulse.
Ideal candidates have skills in at least one of the following areas: monitoring and evaluation, public health and WASH, climate and environmental science, agriculture and appropriate technology, football coaching and safeguarding, social enterprise and business development, tech and digital platforms, media and storytelling, or fundraising and partnerships. Volunteers should be values‑aligned (anti‑“white savior,” dignity‑first), comfortable collaborating in youth‑led spaces, and open to learning from Ugandan peers.
Safeguarding and ethics are non‑negotiable. All volunteers receive child protection and ethics training, adhere to Omuto’s Code of Conduct, and follow strict consent and media guidelines (no “poverty porn” and no one‑on‑one interactions with minors). The program is designed to avoid dependency by centering local leadership, sustainability plans, and structured handovers for every placement.
OGAP provides pre‑arrival orientation, clear Terms of Reference, local supervision, weekly check‑ins, and reflection spaces, plus airport pickup and in‑country support for in‑person roles. Program fees vary by tier (for example: Project Fellows 10–16 weeks in‑person – 1,200 USD; Skills Sprints 4–8 weeks – 400 USD remote / 800 USD hybrid; Youth Exchange – 250 USD remote / 600 USD hybrid; Strategic Advisors – no fee) and help cover coordination, local staff support, project materials, local transport in Mpigi, training, and impact documentation; limited fee waivers (around 20% of spots) are available, especially for Global South applicants with strong skills and financial need.
To express interest, apply via this listing indicating your preferred tier (Fellow, Skills Sprint, Youth Exchange, or Strategic Advisor), your main skill areas, and your approximate availability window. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a video conversation and, if accepted, will co‑design a detailed work plan with the Omuto team before starting.
