Development Advisor

Location: Rochester, NY

Time Commitment: ~3-5 hours per week (flexible depending on volunteer availability)

Organization: Genesee RiverWatch-non profit

Help protect Rochester’s waterways by growing the community that sustains them.

We are a Rochester-based environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting local rivers, improving water quality, and building a community of informed, engaged stewards. We’re seeking a Development Advisor to help strengthen and grow the fundraising efforts that make this work possible.

This is a volunteer leadership role ideal for someone who wants to apply their development skills to a meaningful local cause, build nonprofit leadership experience, or give back to the Rochester community.

What you’ll do

• • Lead and strengthen our individual giving and membership efforts
  • Help design and implement donor cultivation and stewardship strategies
  • Oversee donor communications and appeals (with support from volunteers/staff)
  • Support sponsorship efforts as needed

Who we’re looking for

• • Experience or strong interest in nonprofit development, fundraising, or donor relations
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
  • Organized, thoughtful, and mission-driven
  • Familiarity with Rochester, NY's nonprofit or environmental community is a plus
  • Passion for protecting local natural resources and waterways
  • Helpful, but not required skills: social media marketing
• Formal development experience is welcome but not required—we value commitment, curiosity, and follow-through
