Estimated time commitment: 2-4 hours per week
Position description
The LinkedIn & Bluesky Coordinator helps share Women in Science PDX's stories, events, editorial content, and organizational initiatives with professional and science-focused communities. Working from an established content calendar, Canva graphics, and approved messaging, you'll use AI tools to draft platform-specific copy, refine it to match the WIS PDX voice, and publish engaging content tailored to each platform. While most content is planned in advance, we welcome volunteers who enjoy contributing fresh ideas or creating occasional original posts—but it's never expected. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in science communication, nonprofit communications, and professional social media strategy.
Key Position Responsibilities
- Schedule and publish approved content to LinkedIn and Bluesky using WIS PDX's social media management tools.
- Use AI tools to draft platform-appropriate captions, then review and refine them to ensure they are accurate, engaging, and aligned with the WIS PDX brand voice.
- Adapt content to reflect the tone, audience, and best practices of LinkedIn and Bluesky while maintaining consistent messaging across platforms.
- Monitor comments and community engagement, escalating questions or concerns to the Communications Chair or Social Media Strategist when appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Social Media Strategist to identify opportunities for increased engagement, visibility, and audience growth.
- Suggest ideas for original posts, campaigns, or content series that support WIS PDX's mission (optional).
- Attend monthly Communications Committee meetings.
Ideal Experience
We're looking for someone who enjoys communicating science and engaging with professional online communities. Helpful experience includes:
- Personal or professional experience using LinkedIn and/or Bluesky
- Familiarity with Buffer or a willingness to learn
- Strong written communication skills
- Interest in science communication, nonprofit communications, or digital marketing
Professional social media experience is not required. We'll provide the tools, templates, and guidance you need to succeed.
What You'll Gain
As the LinkedIn & Bluesky Coordinator, you'll have the opportunity to:
- Gain hands-on experience managing professional social media platforms for a growing nonprofit organization.
- Learn how to tailor content for different audiences while maintaining a consistent brand voice.
- Develop skills in AI-assisted content creation, social media planning, science communication, and digital engagement.
- Build experience working within an established communications strategy while contributing your own creative ideas.
- Help connect Portland's STEM community through thoughtful, engaging digital communications.
