    Speaker's Bureau Manager

    ABOUT PFLAG LOS ANGELES

    Who Are We?

PFLAG Los Angeles is dedicated to creating a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Our work focuses on three pillars: education, advocacy, and support. We invite you to join us in building a safer, more inclusive world for all.

A volunteer-powered nonprofit, PFLAG LA has served the Los Angeles community continuously since our first meeting on March 8, 1976. Founded in response to the urgent need for family support and LGBTQ+ advocacy, PFLAG Los Angeles grew from a small gathering into a trusted resource for thousands. To this day, we remain dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and their families, educating the broader community, and advocating for equal rights. Over the decades, we've played a key role in defeating discriminatory legislation, promoting inclusive policies, and expanding public understanding through media, public testimony, and publications. We continue this work today through programs like our monthly support groups (General, Gender Focus, and Español), a robust Speaker’s Bureau, and community education efforts that foster connection, affirmation, and lasting change. Learn more at www.pflagla.org.

    Why Join Us?

    • Make a Tangible Difference: Lead and support efforts to create safer and more inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families while advancing the mission of PFLAG LA.
    • Expand Your Network: Collaborate with advocates, community leaders, and individuals practicing LGBTQ+ allyship to build meaningful connections.
    • Develop Your Leadership: Gain valuable leadership and facilitation experience while applying your expertise for lasting impact, whether through board leadership, support group facilitation, or public speaking.

    ABOUT THE POSITION

There are virtual and in-person opportunities, though we get more requests for in-person.

We work to assemble panels that are as diverse and reflective of LGBTQ+ communities whenever possible. Allies are welcome (especially parents/guardians/caregivers), though you will be encouraged to speak from your own experiences.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage speaker requests, matching requests with panel availability and expertise.
    • Commit to a minimum of 4 speaking engagements per year.
    • Share personal stories and experiences to educate and inspire diverse audiences about LGBTQ+ experiences and PFLAG's mission.
    • Represent PFLAG LA professionally and authentically in various settings including schools, organizations, and businesses.

    Qualifications

    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse audiences.
    • Reliable transportation for in-person engagements (carpooling opportunities may be available).
    • Public speaking and storytelling skills preferred, but not required (training provided for those new to speaking).

    Time Commitment

    • 1-hour sessions (typically) online or in person.
    • Priority need for weekday in-person availability at schools, organizations, and businesses throughout Los Angeles.

If you’re passionate about our mission but don’t meet every qualification, we still want to hear from you.
