Board Director: Fundraising & Business Development Leaders | Nationwide

The Courthouse Dogs Foundation (CDF) is seeking two experienced, mission-driven individuals to join our Board of Directors at a pivotal moment of organizational growth and national scale.

This is a volunteer governance role for leaders with a strong background in fundraising and business development who are eager to contribute strategically while working within a complementary governance model—one that values collaboration, shared leadership, and constructive partnership between the Board and the executive team.

    Who We’re Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who bring:

      • 5+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector
      • Demonstrated expertise in fundraising and/or business development, including one or more of the following:
      • Individual and major donor cultivation
      • Corporate partnerships and sponsorships
      • Revenue growth and diversification strategies
      • Grant development or philanthropic advisory experience
      • The ability to operate effectively within a complementary governance model, balancing strategic oversight with active engagement and peer leadership
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to support and encourage fellow Board members in philanthropic efforts
      • A commitment to ethical fundraising practices and mission-driven growth

Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States. Board service is primarily remote, with occasional in-person participation for board meetings, retreats, and the Foundation’s annual conference.

    Time Commitment

Board members should expect to contribute up to 20 hours per month, including:

      • Board and committee meetings
      • Strategic planning and fundraising activities
      • Donor cultivation, outreach, and stewardship
      • Collaboration with fellow directors and the Chief Executive Officer

This level of engagement is essential to supporting CDF’s current growth phase and long-term sustainability.

What Board Service at CDF Involves

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will:

      • Help shape and advance CDF’s fundraising and business development strategy
      • Actively participate in building and sustaining a culture of philanthropy across the organization
      • Support donor, sponsor, and partner relationships at the board level
      • Contribute to governance, accountability, and strategic oversight in partnership with the executive team
      • Collaborate with a highly engaged Board committed to measurable impact and responsible growth

Why Join the Courthouse Dogs Foundation

CDF is a nationally recognized nonprofit advancing justice with compassion through the use of professionally trained facility dogs. Our work sits at the intersection of trauma-informed practice, evidence-based innovation, and justice-sector reform.

Serving on the Board offers the opportunity to:

      • Make a meaningful national impact
      • Apply your fundraising and business expertise in a high-trust, collaborative governance environment
      • Help guide an organization poised for thoughtful expansion and long-term sustainability

The Courthouse Dogs Foundation is committed to building a diverse, inclusive Board that reflects the communities we serve.
