    Descripción

    Description:

    Jack Capon Villa is seeking volunteers to support monthly gardening maintenance alongside residents with disabilities who enjoy participating in their community fruit and vegetable garden. Volunteers will help residents tend to the garden by providing guidance, light physical assistance, and gardening knowledge so the garden can thrive and residents can enjoy the harvest. Sessions typically take place monthly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays at 4:30 PM and last about one hour. Scheduling is flexible and coordinated with the site. Parking can be limited, but staff parking may be available depending on the day.

    Reports to:

    Volunteer Coordinator and the site’s Service Coordinator

    Goal of Position:

    To help residents maintain their community garden while sharing gardening and sustainability knowledge that supports independence, well‑being, and connection to nature.

    Specific Tasks:

    1. Assist residents with watering, weeding, planting, and harvesting as needed.
    2. Provide gardening tips and guidance based on the condition of the garden.
    3. Work one‑on‑one with residents while balancing independence and support.
    4. Answer resident questions and encourage participation and feedback.
    5. Monitor attendance and ensure all participants sign the sign‑in sheet.
    6. Assist with light cleanup after gardening activities.
    7. Communicate supply needs or observations to the Service Coordinator.

    Qualifications:

    Physical/Age Requirements:

    • Ability to carry gardening supplies and move around the garden area.

    Skills/Education/Experience:

    • Experience with gardening and an interest in working with residents with disabilities.
    • Friendly, patient, and open‑minded.
    • Prior teaching or mentoring experience is a plus but not required.
