GoodBot is an interdisciplinary community of socially-minded professionals working in law, technology, design, social sciences, and policy. Our purpose is to support the development of trusted, accountable, and socially sustainable technology ecosystems by strengthening awareness, research, policy, and practice.
We offer professional services to help technology companies develop and embed measurable social impact strategies into their products and business models and help them navigate a complex and rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
We also develop original research on emerging innovation, technology risks and harms, and approaches needed to effectively govern technology and build toward healthy and inclusive digital societies that benefit everyone.
Position Overview
As a Policy Writer/Researcher, you will join our research team. You will collaborate with the team to analyze, research, and contribute to creating resources on how privacy policies in Canada will change under Bill C-27 and what that will mean for Canadians in the age of AI.
Responsibilities
- Research current and emerging policies considerations in Canada related to platform governance, AI, market concentration of big tech (antitrust/ competition, Deceptive practices, AI/ platform liability, copyright infringement, privacy)
- Collect data on types of legal cases or potential novel applications of the law in response to harms of tech platforms
- Translate research into possible policy approaches for addressing tech-enabled harms
- Analyze and synthesize information from various sources to create clear accessible information for non-expert audiences
- Ensure accuracy, clarity, and coherence in written content, adhering to the GoodBot voice
- Work closely with the research team, providing regular updates on research progress and participating in team discussions
- Collaborate with other volunteers and team members to ensure a comprehensive report.
Requirements
- Enthusiasm and passion for AI policy, ethics, and responsible technology
- Bachelors or Masters or commensurate experiences and interest in public policy, law, political science, responsible tech, psychology or a related field
- Strong research and analytical skills, with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong ability to translate complex topics to mainstream audiences
- Familiarity with the Canadian policy landscape and global AI policy is a plus
