Blowing Rocks Preserve Maintenace Volunteer

Direct Supervisor: Maintenance Specialist

Purpose

Assist with the general maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, and grounds on a 73-acre coastal nature preserve.

Position Summary

Assist with preserve maintenance and infrastructure projects. Activities may include construction, plumbing, painting, tool care, light carpentry, and other related tasks. Volunteers will receive training in power tool use and heavy equipment operation.

Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, construction, or other areas is preferred but not necessary.

Training will be provided.

Requirements

• Minimum age is 18 years old.
• Minimum time commitment is one 3-hour shift per month for three consecutive months.
• Required attire includes long pants and close-toed shoes.
• Must be comfortable standing, walking, and bending over for 3 hours.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Certain tasks may require climbing a ladder.
• Must successfully pass The Nature Conservancy’s background screening and youth safety training.

Recommendations

• Be prepared to work outdoors in hot, sunny, and/or wet conditions.
• This opportunity may involve work off-trail in thick brush where stinging or biting insects and poisonous plants may be present.
• Sun protection, insect repellant, and a refillable water bottle are recommended.
