    Descripción

This role supports the development of a project documenting the gender history of East Africa, contributing to the

creation of a museum and archive highlighting women’s experiences, culture and historical narratives.

    • Document the history of women in Uganda through interviews, film and other methods
    • Research artefacts and develop networks with NGOs and experts
    • Assist with planning museum content and exhibitions
    • Identify and apply for grants and support fundraising initiatives
    • Assist with project planning, timelines and coordination with international partners

The Women’s Rights Initiative (WORI) is an action-oriented organisation working with women and youth in the

Eastern Region of Uganda. Through programmes in human and women’s rights awareness, advocacy, and

education we promote leadership development, sexual and reproductive rights, and economic empowerment. We are based in Jinja, Uganda, where we have recently constructed the first ever women’s shelter with services to enable women to regain self-esteem, safety, dignity and access to justice.

Our mission is to protect the most vulnerable and those needing legal, medical and psychological support; to

empower women and youth to advocate against violence through human rights education, awareness and

advocacy; and to provide them with skills and information to strengthen their capacities and visibility in society.

    Costs and Support

WORI can support successful interns in arranging local homestay accommodation and travel arrangements.

Interns are asked to cover their own travel, living and work costs. These costs are normally minimal and can be

discussed in more detail with the organisation. Due to limited funding, grants are primarily allocated to project

activities and funded opportunities for Ugandan students.

    Ideal Candidate

    • Interest in gender equality, sustainable development and responsible fundraising
    • Strong research and communication skills
    • Proactive, friendly and hardworking attitude
    • Ability to work in a multicultural team and adapt to challenging conditions
    • Self-motivated with strong initiative and organisational skills
