    Advocate for the Rights of Nursing Home Residents

    South Shore Elder Services (SSES) is seeking dedicated volunteers to serve as Long‑Term Care Ombudsmen, advocating for older adults living in nursing homes and long‑term care facilities.

    Ombudsman volunteers play a critical role in ensuring that residents are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, and that they receive the care and services to which they are entitled.

    What You’ll Do

    As an Ombudsman Volunteer, you will:

    • Advocate on behalf of nursing home and long‑term care residents
    • Listen to residents’ concerns and help address issues related to care, services, or quality of life
    • Work collaboratively with residents, families, and facility staff
    • Promote residents’ rights and empower individuals to speak up for themselves

    SSES offers Ombudsman volunteer opportunities in the following communities:

    • Milton
    • Randolph
    • Quincy
    • Braintree
    • North Weymouth
    • Hull
    • Holbrook
    • Norwell
    • Hingham
    • Scituate
    • Cohasset

    Time Commitment

    • Flexible schedule
    • Ongoing, recurring volunteer role

    Requirements

    To volunteer, you must:

    • Be age 21 or older
    • Complete a background check
    • Have a valid driver’s license
    • Be comfortable communicating, listening, and advocating respectfully on behalf of others

    This role is ideal for volunteers who care deeply about elder rights, enjoy problem‑solving, and want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable older adults.
