    Role Overview

    The Director of Strategic Operations serves as the operational engine behind organizational execution.

    This role is responsible for ensuring that strategic priorities, projects, campaigns, and initiatives move from idea to implementation through structured planning, transparent tracking, and disciplined follow-through.

    The successful candidate will establish and maintain a two-week sprint cadence across the organization, create visibility into project status and ownership, facilitate effective handoffs between teams, and ensure leaders have the information they need to make decisions and remove blockers.

    This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, driving accountability, and helping teams execute at a high level.

    This is a VOLUNTEER role where you are donating about 10 hours per week in support of our cause and mission. Come and make a real difference!

    Core Responsibilities

    Organizational Execution

    • Translate leadership priorities into actionable work plans.
    • Ensure all major initiatives have clear owners, timelines, deliverables, and success metrics.
    • Monitor progress across projects and proactively surface risks, delays, and blockers.
    • Drive projects to completion through active coordination and follow-up.

    Sprint Planning & Accountability

    • Establish and manage a two-week sprint planning and review process.
    • Where necessary, facilitate sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
    • Track commitments and action items across teams.
    • Maintain accountability systems that ensure work moves forward consistently.

    Transparency & Shared State

    • Maintain a centralized project management system that provides visibility into organizational priorities and project status.
    • Ensure stakeholders can quickly understand what is on track, at risk, completed, or awaiting decisions.
    • Develop dashboards, reports, and status updates for leadership and team members.

    Cross-Functional Coordination

    • Facilitate handoffs between teams and individuals.
    • Coordinate dependencies across projects and initiatives.
    • Ensure information flows effectively across the organization.
    • Reduce friction caused by unclear ownership or communication gaps.

    Continuous Improvement

    • Identify recurring operational bottlenecks and recommend solutions.
    • Improve systems, workflows, and communication practices.
    • Build lightweight processes that increase effectiveness without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

    Success Measures

    Within the first six months:

    • All major initiatives are tracked in a centralized system.
    • Every project has a clearly identified owner and status.
    • Two-week sprint cycles are operating consistently.
    • Leadership spends less time requesting updates and more time making decisions.
    • Team members have visibility into priorities, deadlines, and dependencies.
    • Work is handed off smoothly between individuals and teams.
    • Strategic initiatives move from concept to completion with fewer delays.

    Key Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects, programs, or operations.
    • Strong project management and organizational skills.
    • Experience implementing Agile, sprint-based, or similar execution frameworks.
    • Exceptional follow-through and attention to detail.
    • Ability to influence without formal authority.
    • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
    • Experience using project management tools such as Asana, ClickUp, Monday.com, Airtable, Notion, Jira, or similar platforms.
    • Passion for mission-driven work and organizational effectiveness.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate is not simply a project tracker. They are someone who naturally creates clarity, drives momentum, and ensures commitments turn into outcomes. They are comfortable following up, asking hard questions about ownership and deadlines, and helping teams stay focused on what matters most.
