ODCFL Volunteer Attorney / Lawyer

Position Summary
ODCFL is seeking a qualified and dedicated Volunteer Attorney / Lawyer to provide legal guidance and support to the organization. The attorney will assist ODCFL with legal research, document review, organizational governance, contracts, policies, compliance, and risk management.
This is an unpaid volunteer position for a licensed attorney who wishes to contribute professional legal expertise to ODCFL's mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal guidance to ODCFL leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Review organizational policies, procedures, contracts, and agreements.
- Assist with nonprofit governance and compliance matters.
- Draft and review legal documents, agreements, waivers, and notices.
- Conduct legal research on issues affecting ODCFL.
- Identify potential legal and compliance risks.
- Assist with developing legally appropriate organizational policies.
- Review partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding.
- Help maintain appropriate corporate and governance records.
- Advise leadership when outside specialized counsel may be necessary.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of organizational information.
- Attend leadership or Board meetings when legal guidance is needed.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
- Current license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Member in good standing of the applicable state bar.
- Strong legal research and writing skills.
- Excellent communication and professional judgment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Commitment to confidentiality and legal ethics.
- Interest in supporting ODCFL's mission.
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following areas is preferred:
- Nonprofit law
- Corporate governance
- Education law
- Contract law
- Employment law
- Civil rights and nondiscrimination
- Privacy and data protection
- Regulatory compliance
- Risk management
- Intellectual property
Time Commitment
This is a flexible volunteer position. The attorney may provide services remotely and participate in meetings as needed based on ODCFL's legal needs and the volunteer's availability.
Compensation
This is an unpaid volunteer position. No salary or hourly compensation is provided. Approved expenses may be reimbursed when authorized by ODCFL in advance.
Professional Responsibilities
The Volunteer Attorney will provide legal services to ODCFL as an organization. The attorney should comply with all applicable professional rules concerning confidentiality, conflicts of interest, competence, and attorney-client relationships.
